Hello Designers! We have now opened submissions for our next Wool People collection (Issue 13) and we’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with this time!
About Wool People
Brooklyn Tweed’s Wool People is an annual design series curated and produced by Brooklyn Tweed.
In each issue, we commission a small group of guest designers to create original knitting patterns for our yarns. We work directly with the designers and their ideas to collaboratively assemble each collection.
We believe in fair compensation for the design talent. A generous portion of every pattern sale will always go directly to the designer for the life of the pattern. In the spirit of collaboration, each designer also retains the rights to their own work.
You will find the mood boards for this collection by clicking on the button below, which include detailed submission guidelines and inspiration to get your design gears turning.
The deadline for proposals is June 4, 2018. We will be in touch by June 30, 2018 if your design has been selected. If one of your designs is accepted for use in the final collection, your written pattern and knitted sample will be due October 12, 2018. The projected publication date is June 2019.
Brooklyn Tweed will cover yarn support, tech editing, layout, photography, promotion, pattern support for customers, and any errata updates. Designer is responsible for providing the pattern in Brooklyn Tweed formatting (style sheet provided), charts, and schematics.
Designers will receive, in perpetuity, 25% of Ravelry proceeds, 10% of Ravelry In-Store Sales proceeds, and 50% of proceeds from Brooklyn Tweed website sales. In addition, they will be paid a design fee ranging from $150-400 USD after completion of tech editing, depending on complexity of project and design process.
Brooklyn Tweed holds rights to distribute the pattern on the Brooklyn Tweed website, on Ravelry, and through wholesale channels. The designer retains all rights to the work, and may concurrently publish the work in a self-produced format for sale elsewhere (not including Ravelry) with the understanding that the format provided by Brooklyn Tweed may not be used or duplicated.
Proposals must include the following:
- Links to your web page URL and/or your Ravelry designer page
- A short bio about yourself
- Design sketch (hand-drawn and digital are both acceptable)
- Photographs of swatches; swatches should be no smaller than 5”x5” (swatches do not need to be worked in a Brooklyn Tweed yarn)
- A short paragraph about your inspiration / what interests you about this specific design
As well as a short list of design information including:
- Specifics about construction details and direction of knitting
- Shaping information
- Intended ease and fit
- Intended yarn and possible color choices
- Special techniques used
- Any additional information you feel is important about the design
Proposals must be submitted in PDF format.
Submissions should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Any questions or queries can also be sent to email@example.com.
We encourage and happily accept submissions from international designers.
We are only accepting knitting submissions at this time, and unfortunately not for crochet.
