One of the big questions we get on the customer service end of Brooklyn Tweed is “how do I access the pattern I just purchased?” Since this has changed slightly with our new website format, here’s a quick tutorial to walk you through the process!
There are two ways to access your newly purchased patterns, and we’ll show you both. The first option accesses your PDF directly through your browser; the second gives you access via the confirmation e-mail that will come into your inbox following purchase.
Downloading Patterns Through Your Browser
During checkout, you can select one of two options for payment: credit card or PayPal. Accessing patterns is slightly different for each, so let’s walk through them both separately.
For credit card, after the payment is complete, you’ll see this screen:
You’ll see that within the Order Details, there’s a direct download link to your pattern (circled above). Just click that, and a dialog box will pop up asking whether you’d like to save the file, just as you’d see from any other web download.
When paying with PayPal, after completion of payment you’ll see the following screen:
With PayPal transactions, you won’t see an immediate download link to your pattern within the Order Details. To access your download, click My Account in the top right corner of your screen, which will take you to a page like this:
All of the patterns you have ever purchased (including your most recent) will appear on this page in a list as shown above. Each of these pattern links (including translations, our list of which you can find here) is clickable and will bring up the dialog box to save your pattern to your hard drive, and will be present whether you purchased your patterns using a credit card or using PayPal.
Your “My Account” acts as your pattern library and will be the page you will visit whenever you want to access your purchased patterns, whether on your computer or mobile devices.
Downloading Patterns Via E-mail Confirmation
In all cases (whether purchasing via credit card or PayPal), you are also given the option to download your pattern via e-mail.
After completing your purchase you will immediately receive an email showing information about your order:
You can download your new pattern from the download links provided within the e-mail (circled above); in our example I purchased the Quill pattern which is available in both English and Japanese. When a pattern is purchased that has multiple translations, each version will appear as a separate downloadable item within your e-mail (as well as on your “My Account” page when you log onto brooklyntweed.com again in the future).
There are a couple instances where you may not see a download link immediately: if you’ve paid with PayPal e-check—which can take a few days to clear—or if your email address was mistyped upon signing up for your Brooklyn Tweed account. In the case of the former, you’ll be notified by PayPal and will receive a download link as soon as your check has cleared. In the case of the latter, this will also mean that you won’t be able to sign into your account; please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll help you get it sorted out!
We hope this quick tutorial is helpful and gives you the information you need to access your patterns. Feel free to leave any questions in the comments or get in touch with us via our Contact Form if anything isn’t clear. Happy knitting!
