This hat features a textural lace fabric, a slouchy sillhouette and an intermittent cabled rib adorning the band. The pattern for the main portion of the hat changes its total stitch count as it is worked, which contributes to the overall texture. When measuring your gauge, it is easiest to measure in “Ravenfoot” motifs (four stitches wide on Rows 5 and 11 of chart), rather than individual stitches.

  • Approximately 230 yards of fingering-weight wool yarn

  • Ravensfoot Texture Pattern: 6 stitches and 12 rows = 1″ in charted pattern with Gauge Needle, unblocked (three 4-stitch “Ravensfoot” motifs to 2″, at Row 5 or 11)
  • 5¾ stitches and 10 rows = 1″ in charted pattern with Gauge Needle, blocked and unstretched
  • Ribbing: 6½ stitches = 1″ over patterned ribbing with Ribbing Needle, blocked and unstretched
  • Gauge Needle: One 16″ circular and one set of DPNs in size needed to obtain Gauge listed for charted pattern; suggested US 4 (3½ mm)
  • Ribbing Needle: One 16″ circular in size needed to obtain gauge for ribbing. Sample used a needle two sizes smaller than Gauge Needle; suggested US 2 (2¾ mm)
Finished dimensions
  • 19½” circumference at brim, unstretched; 22½” circumference at widest point, unstretched; 9¼” height from base of brim to top of crown
  • To fit head sizes 19½” to 24″ comfortably; slouchy fit
